Which version on CPAN failed you? As far as I know, this one should work:

http://search.cpan.org/~turnstep/DBIx-Safe-1.2.5/

It's a shame the powers that be haven't accepted the cpan namespace however, 
that's why it says "unauthorized release". Perhaps it's time to try that 
again.
