Probably the increased traffic from the master to the slave. Without 
more information it is hard to tell. How busy are the bucardo logs? 
How often is the slave being updated? You can try adjusting some of the 
"sleep" parameters. You also might want to make sure your Postgres 
instance on the slave is properly tuned well (postgresql.conf settings).
