This was discussed some on the #bucardo channel, but for the record here:

The jump from Bucardo 4 to Bucardo 5 was a major one, and thus requires 
*removing* (or at least renaming!) the database named "bucardo" where 
all the meta-information is stored. Additionally, you should drop the 
bucardo schema from any databases that were using it as part of a Bucardo 4 
setup.
